AmeriCorps/VISTA & Rockingham Community College

September 2017 – September 2019

AmeriCorps was founded in 1965 under the Johnson Administration. VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) was incorporated into AmeriCorps in 1993. Each VISTA is a full time position completing a National Federal year of service dedicated to community empowerment.

VISTAS are based on the RCC campus, but are not RCC employees; VISTAS receive a small living allowance through AmeriCorps. The RCC AmeriCorps/VISTAS have performance measures centered on two focus areas: Education and Economic Opportunity. Projects focus on indirect service activities such as expanding the scale, reach, infrastructure, and effectiveness of programs and organizations through partnerships and collaborations.

First year RCC AmeriCorps/VISTAS focused on establishing Community and College connections, while the second year concretized these partnerships with realized collaborative project activity.

The five project activity resource guide compilations - Civic Engagement, MLK Legacy of Service with Black History Month, Reality of Money, RCC Non-Public Education Outreach, and Singapore Math for Home School Parent Teachers are representative works of the AmeriCorps/VISTA presence on the campus.
