Battle of the Books is a quiz bowl style competition sponsored by The North Carolina School Library Media Association (NCSLMA) and held locally by Rockingham County Schools Department of Library Media Services.

Students across the state read books from a list selected each year by NCSLMA. The Rockingham County High School competition is limited to schools in the system, which are: Rockingham Early College High (RECHS), Rockingham High, Reidsville High, Morehead High, and McMichael High. Students at each school can participate on their school's team.

District level competitions are held each spring where students answer detailed questions about the books. Winning teams advance to the regional competitions.
